Just a short note from me: as mentioned previously I really hope that you guys can be motivated enough to contribute to this blog actively, or at least contribute a few chats in the chatbox by the side (it's fun! It won't take too much time! And please don't let the bots take over again.) Anyway best wishes for all of you, and I hope that you all have matured enough to set good examples for the incoming Sec 1s to follow. I really had much fun and also unforgettable memories over the course of 2011 with your batch, as I'm confident is true for the rest of mine. Omega--You'll Never Walk Alone.

A VERY LARGE GREETINGS TO ALL.Admittedly this blog has been left to flounder, degrade, opsonize, rust and for all relevant matters and intent, is now dead. O well this isn't rare, ho, its actually rather common and has recurred on a fluctuative basis--a malady that granted its rather debilitative outlook, is actually quite easy to cure.

So why this? Why the floundering? Why the mental sanctioning of ideas and contributions? Rather simple really....(and please ignore the backdates in the blog posts--I had to delete a considerable number of posts in 2010 and 2011 for purposes of synchrocity) its because the platoon has lost its common drive, its spirit, its mouthpiece. This blog deftly manges to capitalise and even capitulate the feelings and willpower of Omega. It is a possession and trust that we bear with pride, and as such must wield with pride. TO THE CURRENT SEC 1s OR BATCH 62: As you've might have noticed, Nov camp is nearly here...this means promotions :)(future lance-corporals we salute you) and of course transitions. You will become leaders and most importantly, seniors that Batch 63 will look on for guidance and help as they grapple with settling into Rafflesian culture. Remember Ardente (i.e. June camp)? I admit that it was indeed quite an experience, demanding yet exhilarating at the same time, to have gone through that hike (if you can't remember,you have remarkable PTSD), the war games and those entertaining breakfast-lunch-dinner sessions with most of you. Not only for me of course, per se, but also those of B 62 who turned up (yes, indeed, Nirmeet, Allan, Amos and Daniel, thank you) and slogged for the platoon,and I must say that we indeed did remarkably well--even in the face of adversely testing conditions like the hike, we still managed to persevere and stretch ourselves to our limits, even in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds initially, we managed to forge onwards in resolute determination. And the result? We won. We emerged victorious for the hike, and I think the turning point was when we sneaked upon Epsilon which was taking a breather on the flyover--they were shocked and bewildered to say the least, having long superseded us in the activity along the Kallang river and thus snugly self-ensconsced in their conviction of their pole position. So how then did we manage to overcome the odds that were so formidably stacked against us, and then push on with every exhausting step back towards Kembangan? Your spirit, Batch 62, was infectiously enthusiastic, and you all displayed a determination to persevere despite the odds, and this, ultimately, was what pushed us to achieve what we managed to achieve that day, during that camp, both in our hearts and souls. The Omega spirit may have dwindled, it may have been challenged, but it always lives on.

P.S. I know this sounds rather cliche, but Omega needs to undergo EPIC REVIVE again. We need contributions! Thoughts! Feelings! Expressions! from each and every Omegan (I've mentioned this before already, but if you want to know how to post or access this blog, please contact me via hoe_kian_guang@hotmail.com, or via approaching any of your friendly B61 Omegans). The responsibility of maintaining this blog will soon be left to you Batch 62, as well as the added strain of assuming seniority over Batch 63, but please, even when things seem so depressingly sober, when everything is seemingly against you,always keep in mind that others before you have experienced what you are now experiencing, and that these very people are there to help and guide you. I thank you all for having been such great juniors and enthu Omegans.

P.P.S Please don't be too disheartened by the platoon points...we are only trailing by 200 points and there will be plenty of opportunities to more than make up for this unfortunate deficit during Nov camp! EPIC REVIVE!

Alright. I'm a little bit bored, although i haf to go and mug.

First, i agree with george. George is in FACOM and can lead us to greater heights. And my FA sux i really nid to improve on it. And all of u nid too.

On the other hand, i disapprove of using FA to mug bio. No, FA doesn't cover everything that u nid to noe for bio, maybe enough to become a medic, but no there are more impt things to mug. (like muscles. Yes kavin if ur reading this u shld noe what i am talking abt xD)

And i cant seem to understand, i'm fed up. Why is the whole world focused on bioethical issues like abortion and A. Insemination and also on life sciences when PHYSICS is the foundational subject. Look at the SIMO t-shirt for a illustration of this fact. (Although overall, math is the greatest good. Ever.)

Mark my words. PHYSICS FTW !!!

Anyway, I want each and everyone of you to start studying First Aid. Come on, you can start by mugging the different bones and fractures and stuff. It helps in Human Biology too! Next time, if you want to be a doctor, you will realise these are VERY IMPORTANT.

Now let me make this clear. This platoon emphasises on everybody giving his best (or her best, if there is a girl in this platoon :) Last yr we got last and we lost by a margin of a 100 pts. Yes, one HUNDRED points. This yr we are determined to gain back the title. This can only happen if we everyone in Omega has a positive attitude, be persistant, etc.

Omega's strong point used to be (ask the Sec3s):

Footdrill; Academic stuff (for some ppl); making up random jokes

Omega's weak point used to be:

NOT Posting actively on the blog; First Aid; ponning training (for some ppl); Evacuation (Sec2s pls train more on ur fitness, same goes for sec1s); NAPFA

When u relook at those weak points, keep in mind , that watever weak points that we had is only our PAST REALITY. With a good atitude and mindset (this is directed at both sec1s and sec2s), we can become strong in these areas.

Uh.....for footdrill: It's probably only me and George who are pro enough, so we nid sec1s that are willing to become FD pros in the future :)

For First Aid: We are improving. Yes, FA is the reason why we jumped into first place currently. A couple of us have passed our Standard First Aid Test, so perhaps this is movtivation for u guys to work harder in your FA.

Random Jokes: I make these everyday. Hehe.

NAPFA: Hmm.....i want all of u to set a goal: For sec1s i want all of u to get at least a Silver. For Sec2s, i want all of u to get at least a silver too, but if you have achieved Silver b4 (like me), this time AIM FOR GOLD. FOCUS ON THAT ULTIMATE GOAL. We must be more fit than the other platoons. Only then can we show off :)

Hope that provides u guys a good guideline to shape Omega's future. WE MUST GET 1st this yr!!

I asked for a half dozen nuggets.
'We don't have half dozen nuggets,' said the teenager at the counter.
'You don't ?' I asked.
'We only have six, nine, or twelve,' was the reply.

4 consequences on how Hadi the Great will brutally destroy Earth if Daniel and co. plans on invading into our hyperspace territory:

1. He will create a time rift between different parts of the Earth, such that Daniel is now in Afghanistan, fighting in World War XI, and Yuhui will be in the Yucutan Peninsula, helplessly watching the giant asteroid crash into the Earth and obliterate him and the dinosaurs. The "Chim Stuff" website contains two mistakes (and counting...) :

1. The website states that the "Chim Formula2" was created by Ramanujan...however, I've seen this formula last time and I'm very sure that this is a VARIATION of Ramanujan's real formula, created by Chudnovsky.

This is forgivable, but the next mistake can never ever be forgiven.

2.The website says that "Chim Formula 1" is created by Carl Friedrich Gauss. But if you ask Jiun Harn, Sean Lo, and Co. they would immediately recognise that it is created by none other than EULER!! Yes, this is EULER's most famous formula, uniting all 5 constants of the universe!!! The website is commiting a mathematical heresy by insulting Gauss and EULER!!!

LOL.

Platoon Mentors for 2009/2010

Hi Omega,

From POC, you should have found out by now that your new Platoon Mentors for 2009/2010 are me and me.

Also, as announced during POC, we have succeeded in clinching third place for Term 3, and we have to say that we are amazed at how Omega's performance exceeded expectations.

Obviously sarcastic, but never mind.

Okay we'll get to the point. Although we ended Term 3 on a bad note, you have this last opportunity to score one last goal (especially so for the Sec 2s). This means you have to work extra hard during Term 4. And please stop using "top three" to console yourselves, it doesn't help doing that. Accept that you got last place and work hard to getting first.

For Term 4, get serious. During OA IPC, you all were a joke. No one was following any of the instructions and none of the Sec 2s really took charge. Do you all actually care about Omega?
Sec 2s, you all were treating the Sec 1s as inferior beings - you all should know what I'm talking about. What happened to unity?
Omega, your discipline _insertwordhere_. Of course, it's OA IPC, have all fun you want, lean against the wall, drag your feet, sit on the table, slack, walk around, talk to your friends, play with the twine and poles. Seriously, this is Red Cross, not some random musical group or interest club.
The worse was slacking. Even though OA IPC was designed so that everyone would get a chance to participate, you all didn't take that opportunity and instead chose to slack. Do you love punishment or what?

I'm not going to talk about the rest of Term 3, the last and final week was bad enough.

Some advise:
Sec 1s, listen to your Sec 2s instructions, and take the initiative if no else is doing so. You will be in charge of the platoon soon, and surely last place is not what you want next year.
Sec 2s, you've been in Omega for almost two years, so lead by example and get serious, if any one of you see that someone is slacking, tell him how he can help out. If you strive for the best, the entire platoon will follow you with that.

Take note that we are not saying that you should ignore your batch(es). Don't let the rivalry between the platoons split the unit up into three.

Basic Formulas in Elementary physics:

v= u + at ----- Acceleration formula

W= FD ----- "Work" Formula or "Footdrill formula"

F=ma ----- Newton's 2nd law

P = W/t ----- Power formula

P= F/ A ----- Pressure formula

F = kD ----- Spring Formula (Hooke's Law)

= W/A (because the force exerted by the liquid is the weight of the liquid)

therefore, P = hgd

We can also conclude that the "height" of liquid is the depth. Hence, the pressure exerted by a liquid depends on the depth, Density, and gravity if you're not on earth.

SCIENCE LECTURE 3:

Since Singaram mentioned abt Ohms......we shall talk abt...

ELECTRICITY!!!

MUAHAHAHAHA. Not funny lah.

Anyways, here's an introduction on some chim words:

Amperes: The amount of current flowing
Ohms: The amount of resistance in an electric circuit
Voltage: The "potential difference" of a circuit. This "potential difference" causes the electrons to flow as electricity. Or in other words, the capacity of an electric field to do work on an electric charge (from wikipedia)

I noe I noe, the word "potential difference" seems so unheard of. Think of this, you have a circuit, and the battery is acting like a pump, pumping out electrons. The "pressure" of the "pumping" is the potential difference, aka Voltage. According to wikipedia, the flow of water might be a helpful analogy. It is.

Anyway, I'll start with:

V= IR or V= RI

Where:
V=Voltage (volts)
I=Current (Amperes, or abv. A)
R= Resistance (Ohms)

N.B. Amperes is an SI base unit.

I will not go into too much detail on this formula.......since it will only confuse y'all.

The basis for electrical charge is + and -. For +, the electric fields radiate out, while for -, the electric fields converge. The potential difference between + and - on a battery is shown as the voltage. (Eg. 5V.)

Now on, electric shocks.....the body starts to feel pain when 1 milliampere is passed through. 100 milliamperes is actually enough to damage the organs.

So tat's all, I dun really have much time to go on further in this lecture...but anyway.

hi guys,
i'm back. I refers to Singaram, your 1st temporary PM. I'm your new temporary PM. Anyway, I've been observing your trainings, and lessons, and what i've observed is this: omega owns! Our aim for omega this year is obviously no. 1 place. it's not too late! we can still do it! Here's a tip on getting lots and lots of platoon points: pay a lot of attention in lessons and don't forget your syllabus-constantlyy revise so you can get points for the mock tests and questions etc.
Show your platoon spirit, so i don't expect to hear of or see any quarrels among you guys. You guys seem to be very well now, but you can do even better. the first step to getting more points is making sure not to lose any more points! so keep this blog active at all times. each person can check and post on the blog interesting, fun stuff, every 2 days. that way, omega will still exist outside trainings. So, i expect everyone of you will be posting on the blog consistently now, and will always be united. Good luck for your ccts, and have a good weekend! Bye!

Now, since George presented a little Science lesson on the kinetic theory of matter, I shall present my own science lesson on IONIC BONDING:

Now, let's start by stating the general process of ionic bonding:

1. Take two elements that are known to "ionically bond" together, for example A and B.
2. Put them together.
3. Now suppose A has 2 outer electrons and B has 6 outer electrons. When you put them together, Substance A will naturally lose the outer 2 outer electrons to B to obtain a noble gas configuration. So now, Substance A and Substance B have 8 outer electrons, and are temporarily noble.
4. However, since A has lost 2 electrons, it has become positively charged because there are more protons than electrons in A. The opposite applies for B (negatively charged). Unlike charges attract, so A will be attracted and therefore bonded with B. Thus, you get AB, a new compound! Note that AB will be a lattice structure. An example of this is Sodium Chloride.

Also, the forces that attract A and B together depend on the electronegativity of the two atoms (tat is, how strongly the atom attracts other electrons.) However, Electronegativity is used more often for atoms in molecules, and also more often for Covalent bonding. For example: In pure water H2O, the Oxygen atom is more negatively charged while the 2 hydrogen atoms are more positvely charged.

That is why, when Sodium Chloride is dissolved in water, the "negative" oxygen atoms usually gather around the positive Sodium ion, and "positive" hydrogen atoms gather around the negative Chlorine ion. Electronegativity is a little weak, so the inverted commas are there to indicate the weakness.

I oso found out from wikipedia that surprisingly, the noble gases had the highest amount of electronegativty, even though they were not very reactive.

There can never be a "perfect" ionic bonding, because all ionic bonds have to a certain extent, covalent bonds. Again, this is due to electronegativity but there is much deeper stuff here. An example is Lithium Fluoride.

If trivia is your thing, electronegativity was developed under the valency bond theory by Linus Pauling in 1932. If I say that hydrogen has a valency of 1, then Hydrogen needs to lose 1 electron
to obtain the noble gas structure.

Hi, George here. Frankly though, I shouldn't be using the computer because I am sick. SICK! You get it? I am being very candid here. That's why most people will realise this is written when everyone is in school. I am physically ill. VERY ILL. Racial Harmony Special!

Each platoon has to take photos of people doing things that are normally done by people of other races. For more people there are of different races in all the photos, bonus points will be awarded. In addition, these photos are to include the theme of racial harmony. Platoon mentors are to ensure that all members of the platoon participate. Photoshopping is allowed. Entries are to be submitted via email, to the editorial gmail (editorial.rirc@gmail.com).

The Challenging Part
• At least 1 photo must have a sec 3 (not including Saravanan) as the subject of the photo
• At least 1 photo must involve a pen, a soft toy, and a banana
• At least 3 photos must feature the platoon colour
• At least 2 photos must be taken in a public place
• At least 1 photo must involve food
• Platoons will be penalized for not adhering to the above. (-3 points each)
• Platoons are allowed to send in other photos that do not fall under any of these categories, as long as these photos feature people doing things normally done by people of other races and include the theme of racial harmony

Bonus Points
• Get a photo of Saravanan dancing with someone of some other race that is not in the platoon. (+ 10 points)
• Get a photo of people of three or more races doing something normally done by people of some other race not represented in the group of three or more people. (+ 5 points)

Pictures will be graded on:
Illustration of Theme (2.5 points)
Creativity (5 points)
Overall Impression (2.5 points)

This applies to each photo. So, the more you send in, the more points you get.

It's the 142th Post! Yay! *Applause* Anyway, I am here just to dictate that I am officially done with my freakin' CS/CLE project! Random...random. Just to add on, I have some serious messages to convey. Are there times when you just stop and think, why am I doing this? Well, I do. And today I was studying like a maniac for my Poem exam next week when I stopped and severely had a series of mind-wracking metacognition. What's the point in studying so hard for English anyway? Yeah, I know, get a good job, have lotsa money and stuff but in the end you have to soliloquiz, is it worth it? Just think about it. I mean ya, you should study, but then you still have to know the reason behind it. The REAL reason. If you scour deep down, you shall find the ultimate answer. That, my friends, is the crucial key to joy in living. So, now I'm thinking, why are we being so competitive for? We just happily joined in the fray of the platoon competition. What is its point? And that, my comrades, is my question to all of you. What's the point of the platoon competition? Why are we being so competitive?

Spread this message around, but don't say it's by me. I loathe the prospect of fame. Fame leads to pride which leads to destruction. Yup. So, just don't.

Haven't been posting on any blog for a while now... But HURRAH! THIS IS THE 139th POST! BBQ! Nevermind for that hyperative moment... Let's just discuss about tasks at hand. If you guys can recall, we have been assigned the sacred obligation of folding aeroplanes! Try to bring them on Monday though. I have a hunch something is up. And more! This post shall also contain some questions. Sirs, AND ICs, nobody wants to buy from us for the thing.
